Thank you for showing an interest in our Kofukan association. Set out below is some basic information about our national organization.

Organization
Kofukan England is a member of Shito-ryu Karate-do Kofukan International, an association practising Shito-ryu karate which currently has members in
around 26 countries worldwide.
In 2017 the 45th Anniversary was celebrated during the Kofukan World Cup in Paris.
Instruction
Chief Instructor for Kofukan England is Shihan Keiji Tomiyama, 8th Dan Tasshi. He conducts occasional Instructors’ Courses which are free to registered Kofukan
Club Instructors. Other courses aimed at students of all grades and ages, both ‘members only’ and ‘open’ are also held regularly; for example, a weekend course with Joint World Chief Instructors Naoki Omi and Keiji Tomiyama, normally in February, and an autumn course in Lincoln. There are also many overseas seminars which members can participate in.
Other instructors teach in clubs around the country, as shown in the list of club locations below.
Instructional material such as books and DVDs by Keiji Tomiyama plus Kofukan International’s own online newspaper are also available to all members to
aid their study (see www.kofukankarate.com).
Membership fees
The E.K.F. individual registration fee and an insurance premium are included in our individual annual membership fee. This fee also includes membership of our parent organization Kofukan International. Instructors/clubs are also required to take out a Professional Indemnity insurance.
Representation
An Annual General Meeting is held each year, giving club representatives a chance to hear of the latest developments and air their views.
Gradings
Gradings are currently held at 6-monthly intervals for kyu grades and are held in clubs or local areas.
Please refer to the current syllabus for details of grading requirements.
Dan Gradings are also held at regular intervals.
Events
Kofukan England is a member of the English Karate Federation and endeavours to support and participate in its various initiatives.
We also have a competition squad programme for seniors and juniors, when possible entering several competitions a year in Britain, with a selected squad going to Kofukan International’s World Cup.

KOFUKAN KATA LIST
Shito-ryu schools of karate practise many katas, as you will see from our list below, and there are various training routines used in Kofukan, some based on kata, others designed for competition kumite training, aimed to reinforce and assist with learning.
